Death of Innocence

$4,000.00

18” X 54” X 1.5” Canvas

Acrylic, Collage

Inspired by the opulent curves and vibrant contrasts of Art Nouveau, Death of Innocence tells the story of a young woman on the precipice of transformation. She is everywoman—a sister, a daughter, a mother, a friend. Perhaps even a past version of yourself.

She stands exposed yet armored, her expression solemn but unbroken. A butterfly, emerging from the delicate lattice of a ribcage, symbolizes both fragility and metamorphosis—growth born from pain, strength forged through survival. The luminous halo behind her head is edged in black and white, a reminder that light and shadow, joy and sorrow, are forever entwined.

Beneath her, the curving typewriter arms unfurl into fiery, petal-like tendrils—a transition, an evolution, an awakening. At her hips, wings begin to form, signifying a rebirth—the shift from girlhood to womanhood, from innocence to self-awareness. Yet, over her face, a veil of watchful eyes remains—a mask, a defense, a learned invisibility that so many wear.

She is resilient. She is becoming. The jubilant orbs that surround her are not just memories but echoes of the past she has risen beyond. The longer you look, the more you will find—just as in life, meaning unfolds over time.
